Here in the SBC Head Office, we thought the first blog of the first month of 2014 would be a great opportunity to give everyone a little update on what’s new for SBC in 2014. There have been a lot of exciting additions to our summer school programmes for 2014, and this year looks set to be better than ever!
Some of you may have noticed that new for 2014 is The Oxford College Summer School, based in the heart of Oxford and for our older students aged 15 to 17 years old. We are offering some stimulating academic courses at The Oxford College Summer School, with modules including General English, Literature & Creative Writing, Business & Leadership as well as afternoon seminars on Global Thinking and Academic Writing.
Of course an SBC summer school wouldn’t be an SBC summer school if it was all work and no play! At The Oxford College there will also be a social and cultural programme designed for slightly older students, with trips to the theatre, English garden parties, dinner at an Oxford restaurant, plus students will also get to visit one of London’s famous sites during their stay (including for example Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Bank of England) to participate in workshops related to their chosen field of study.
Whilst on the subject of trips to London, there will also be a new 2014 London excursion, consisting of an amazing day out to the capital, including a visit to the top of the iconic Shard which boasts 40 mile views across the London skyline, a visit to The Tate Modern and also a boat trip down the River Thames. Furthermore, we will also be running new excursions to Harry Potter World AND Stonehenge!
If this isn’t enough to whet your appetite for this summer, then perhaps a taste of what is in store for the afternoon and evening activities will help….firstly, as many of you will be aware, 2014 is the year of the football World Cup in Brazil. In order to celebrate the World Cup, we will be having Brazilian themed carnival evenings featuring samba instruments, samba dance teachers along with lots of other games, fancy dress and carnival music! A new afternoon activity that will also be taking place at our SBC Oxford, Headington Oxford, and SBC Bournemouth Summer Schools is ‘Drama Force’, a team-based interactive drama experience with added humour, perfect for those aspiring actors who want to try something a bit different.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, new for 2014 there will also be Leavers Balls featuring photo booths and chocolate fountains, music-video making events, World Record Challenge Day, shoe designing and much, much more…..
Excited doesn’t even come close!
